MountaineeringBen nevis stands at 4,418 feet and is the highest mountain in the UK, and offers some of Britain's best winter climbing on its north-east side, from routes such as the shroud VII and Smiths Route V down to Raeburns easy route II/III and Green gully IV***
This mountain has it all, but beware because of its world wide popularity you could end up queuing for your chosen route of the day, but then again it is worth the wait
Gardyloo Gully This climb must be one of the most popular on Ben Nevis at 170 meters in length and at a grade II/III it is a good day out for any intermediate climber. Starting the route from Observatory Gully it is the obvious line up. At 130 meters into the climb your path is blocked by a large choke stone, sometimes a tunnel appears beneath this which leads to a short near vertical ice pitch, however if conditions are exceptional then the whole route banks out and the tunnel is filled in. NOTE: the cornice can often be difficult so care is needed.
